2012-13 – Organized the Presidential Panel for the 2013 Annual Meeting of the Society of Military History. The panel entitled, “War and Medicine” included presenters, Shauna Devine, Western University, Mark Harrison, Oxford University and Jeffery Reznick, Deputy and Chief, NLM; Chair Dale. C. Smith, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Our panel explored the broader influences and connections between war and civilian medicine. University of Southern Mississippi’s Center for the Study of War & Society, the National World War II Museum, and Southeastern Louisiana University, March 14-16, 2013 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

2012-13 – Member of the program committee for the Annual meeting of the Southern Association for the History of Medicine and Science, February 21-23, 2013, in Charleston, South Carolina, hosted by The Waring Historical Library, Medical University of South Carolina.

2011-12 – Co-organizer, “Another March Madness: The Civil War at 150,” to commemorate the 150 year anniversary of the American Civil War. During this one day event, prominent speakers from Duke University, University of North Carolina, North Carolina State and Ohio State reflected on the American Civil War 150 years later. The speakers focused on a number of broad themes including the social, cultural, medical and military aspects of the American Civil War. The symposium coincided with two Civil War exhibits in the Perkins Library—one a broad Civil War exhibit entitled, “I Recall the Experience Sweet and Sad: Memories of the Civil War.”  The other showcased Duke University’s rich Civil War medicine collection.
